Village Yarlovitsa

The village of Yarlovitsa is located in Vidin district (North-West Bulgaria), and is one of the villages from municipality Dimovo. It is situated 22.82 km. East of the municipal center town of Dimovo and 9 km. from the main road Vidin-Lom. Neighboring villages are villages of Septemvriytsi, Izvor and Vodnyantsi. A small mountain keeps the villages from northerly winds and the small river Mechkobora brings coolness in the summer. Along the village passes also the river of Skomlya and 3km. in South direction is situated Drenovets dam (is suitable for fishing).

History: The reverence to the sun is encoded in the name of the village. Yarlo is old-Slavic god of the the sun, fertility and love. The beauty of the place was unforgettable also to the group of displaced persons forced to leave the village in 1861. During the Turkish slavery they sought refuge in Russia, but only after a year all of them returned to Yarlovitsa.

Sightseeing: From 2009. Yarlovitsa has a new temple - the Holy Trinity. It was raised to replace the old one, built in 1881 but collapsed 40 years ago. There was a bell donated by city of St. Petersburg in 1885, but it was stolen.
