Village Archar
The village of Archar (Vidin District) is located in North-West Bulgaria and is part of Municipality Dimovo. It is situated 28 km away from town of Vidin, on the main road Vidin - Lom, where Archar River (known among the local population as river Archaritsa) flows into Danube River. The River of Barzartsi passes through the village.
The village has old history. It was founded during the Roman Empire under the name Ratsiariya. Ratsiariya occurred during the II century as a permanent station of the Danube Roman fleet.
Nowadays Archar is big village with population greater than municipal town of Dimovo. The inhabitants profess 2 religions - the Eastern Orthodox and Islam and believers of both are tolerant each other. Village of Archar consists of three hamlets - Bulgarian, Turkish and gypsy. In the Turkish one a small old mosque has preserved.
