Village Gamzovo

The village of Gamzovo is located in Vidin district (North-West Bulgaria), and is one of the villages from municipality Bregovo. It is situated 12.11 km. East of the municipal center town Bregovo. Neighboring villages are Kalina, Tiyanovtsi and Vinarovo. Near the village passes the international road No 12 Vidin-Bregovo. River of Vidrovets runs through the village and the houses are located adjacent slopes.
Is generally believed that the name of the village - Gamzovo - origins from the grape variety "Gamza", which was widespread in the region. There is another theory (Margarita Nikolova-ethnographer in Vidin Museum / 1989 /. )  about the origin of the name: according her the name comes from the shape of the area, which is located in the village - with a long concave cup handle. This form of locality is reflected in the Turkic word "Gamza", which has parallels in the Sakha language - "hasma"; Altaic languag - "kanza", Chinese language "ganuzi" - all with same meaning - pipe (for smoking).
