Municipality Chepelare

Chepelare, Smolian, BulgariaChepelare Municipality is located in the middle parts of Rhodope mountains, on the upper course of the river Chaya. Its average sea elevation is 1200m. It bounders the following municipalities: Smolyan, Laki, Devin, Assenovgrad, Rhodopi. Chepelare municipality covers an area of 384 sq. km - 73% of it - forests, 14% - common pastures, 11% - arable land. Pamporovo, one of Bulgaria`s two main international ski resorts as well as town of Chepealre and 10 villages - Pavelsko, Hvoina, Zabardo, Malevo, Orehovo, Bogoutevo, Ostritsa, Lilekovo, Zornitsa, Progled are located on the rest 2% of the area.
The municipality terrain is typical mountainous. The steep areas predominate, the sea elevation is 1000-1600m for the most parts. Mount Persenk 2091m is the highest peak. The forests in the territory of Chepelare municipality cover 25 000 ha and more than  70% of the forests are private property.
