Village Manastir
The village of Manastir is located in North-East Bulgaria, Varna District. It is one of the most picturesque villages in municipality Provadia, situated on the Varna – Devnya – Provadia road. The village is at distance 32km from Varna city.
Landmarks:
In immediate proximity to the village are located the rock monastery "Kara peshtera", some ancient settlements from the II-IV century, a Thracian sanctuary and three Thracian burial mounds.
During the Crimean war 1854-55, a large British army unit was allocated in the village of Manastir. By value of the fresh spring water that unit did not give many victims in the choleric epidemic.
There are legends telling that a raging deer killed Chavdar Chieftain here. An evidence of that is the stone with an image of a deer knocked in the yard of the "St. Paraskeva" church.
