Municipality Gurkovo

Gourkovo Municipality is one of the youngest municipalities in the country, established only in 1997. It is located in South-Eastern Bulgaria between the Balkan Range and Sredna Gora Mountain in the eastern end of the Rose Valley. Two important road-transport highways pass through its territory: The Pass of the Republic connecting Northern with Southern Bulgaria and the Sofia - Bourgas main road with a railroad running parallel along with it. The region is crossed by the Toundzha River and the Zhrebchevo Dam Lake is in its southern part.
Natural sights and monuments of culture in Gurkovo municipality:
There are some historical sites around city of Gourkovo that have been declared monuments of culture - Manastira (the monastery), Bilchin Dol (vale of the herbs), Yurtishtata, Assara, Portata (the gate), Gredata (the beam). The three churches - Sv. Dimitur in the town of Gourkovo, The Presentaiton of the Blessed Virgin in the village of Panicherevo and Saint Holy Trinity in the village of Konare - have been declared monuments of culture, too. In the village of Pchelinovo there is a unique house-monument of the youth-brigade movement built by the builders of the Pass of the Republic.
