Municipality Georgi Damyanovo

Georgi Damyanovo municipality is located in the south-western part of Montana District. Most of its territory is in a rough mountainous area of 600 m average height above sea level. Georgi Damyanovo village is at 20 km distance from the District Center (town of Montana) and at 136 km from Sofia city.
Georgi Damyanovo municipality is in the group of municipalities of poor economic development. Agriculture is extensive satisfying the needs of households of vegetables, fruit and livestock fodder. At present only a few industrial companies in the wood processing sector are in operation. The agricultural land in the municipality is of area 129,472,500 sq. m, and the land for forestry is of area 159,265,182 sq. m.
Georgi Damyanovo region reaches from Kopren peak in the Western Balkan Range to Shiroka Planina to the north. There are many natural sights on the territory of the municipality. The municipality has the potential to develop eco-tourism. The protected natural sights and areas are as follows: Ousketo natural reserve, Dalgi Del village and the Kopren locality in Kopilovtsi village. The natural sights are: Mecha Doupka, Kamena Riksa village; the Dourshin waterfall, Voden Skok and Landzhin Skok waterfalls in Kopilovtsi village; the Razhena Bara waterfall in Elovitsa village; centuries-old trees (winter oak, beech and a sequoia tree); Balova Shouma forest park; and the Koprenska eco-path. The site suitable for cultural tourism is the Lopushanski Monastery St. John the Baptist.
