The Loukovit Municipality is located in Lovech District (North-Western Bulgaria). It lies north of the Balkan Range along the valley of the Zlatna Panega River. Its territory is crossed by the Sofia - Rousse main road. The town is 52 km to the southwest of the town of Pleven and 45 km away from Lovech. There are a lot of artificial lakes in the area, among which Sindikata, Goren Topolovets, Dolen Topolpvets, Bukorov Dol, etc.
Some of the most impressive Karst areas in the country are located within the boundaries of Loukovit municipality. Large number of rock formations and phenomenons are located in the vicinity of the town of Loukovit. A total number of 240 caves have been explored; 6 of them are natural phenomena.
A number of churches in the region have been declared monuments of culture, arts or architecture, such as: St. George and Resurrection of Christ in the village of Bezhanovo, St. Paraskeva in the village of Dermantsi, the Assumption in the village of Petrevene, St. Cyril and St. Methodius in the village of Toros, Archangel Michael in the village of Uglen.
Recreational and countryside tourism is developed in the region. There are possibilities for the development of cultural and historical, cave and religious tourism.The natural features of the Kotlen Canyon and the adjoining circus bearing the same name are a unique place offering opportunities for alternative tourism.
