Village Sokol
The village of Sokol (Sliven district) is located in South-East Bulgaria and is included in municipality Nova Zagora. It is situated in the Gornotrakiyska Valley, 14 kilometers southeast of the town of Nova Zagora and equally distance (36km in a straight line) from the towns of Sliven, Stara Zagora and Yambol. The old name of the village was Erduganliy. It is believed that it is named Sokol (means "falcon") because the falcons were breeded there. There is a falcon population around the village.
Landmarks:
- a memorial fountain in the center of the village, built by the architect Shivarov in memory of died from the village of Sokol in the Bulgarian wars.
- a necropolis of six mounds is located southeast of the village, close to the dam "Dobri dere";
- The Himitliyska fountain
- "Kamenlivata mogila" (The stony hill), situated in area of Himitliata, north of the Himitliyska fountain.
