Village Ignatitsa

The village of Ignatitsa (Vratsa district) is located in North-West Bulgaria and is included in municipality Mezdra. It is situated 25.48 km. southwest of the municipal center, town of Mezdra. Neighboring villages are Zverino and Oselna. 4 km. away is located river of Iskar which is suitable for fishing.

According to legend, the name of the village origins from the blacksmith lived there and named Ignat. According to the legend, Ignati had an extremely beautiful wife who was kalled from the villagers "Ignatitsa" (the wife of Ignat) and hence came the name of the village.

History: The area of the village has been inhabited since ancient times. Already in the first millennium BC Iskar gorge was inhabited by the Thracian tribe Triballi. In 75 BC Roman legions invaded northern parts of present-day Bulgaria, and in 29-28 BC included the lands of the Iskar Gorge in the Roman province of Thrace. .
