The
Gorna Malina municipality is located in South-West Bulgaria in Sofia District.
The Municipality consists of 14 villages. The regional center of
Gorna Malina municipality is Village of Gorna Malina wich is
located at distance
35 km from Sofia. The geographic
location of the Municipality (on the southern entrances of Arabakonak and
Vitinya passes in the Balkan range) predetermines the existence of cultural
strata and traces of human inhabitance dating back to antiquity. The territory
of the Municipality used to be crossed by ancient roads across the Balkan range.
The nature in Gorna Malina Municipality is almost intact
and has preserved its genuine condition. According to the National Plan for
Rural Areas Development Gorna Malina has been determined to be
a municipality with a potential for development of rural tourism. Several
micro-dam lakes have been built in the Municipality. They offer fishing as a
recreation activity. A municipal terrain in Mednik locality in the foot of
Sredna Gora Mountain is an attractive natural spot for ecotourism and for
construction of a tourist complex.
