The municipality of Belitsa is found in southwestern Bulgaria. The road passing through it connects two of the main arteries of travel within the country and internationally: highway E-79 Sofia-Kulata-Athens and E-80 Sofia-Plovdiv-Svilengrad-Istanbul. Belitsa is surrounded by the municipalities of Bansko, Razlog, Samokov, Yakoruda, and Velingrad. The total area of the municipality is 293536 decares, of which 221862 decares are forested area and 63205 decares is agricultural land. Population density is 33 people/km2, less than half that found in the middle of the country (71/km2, 2001). The landscape of the municipality is mainly middle to high mountains, with big differences from sea level, which defines its diversity. The Mesta River crosses it and separates the east Rila mountains from the “Velisho-Videnishko” part of the western Rhodope mountains. The center of municipality is town of Belitsa.
