Village Butan
The village of Butan (Vratsa district) is located in North-West Bulgaria and is included in municipality Kozloduy. It issituated 22.6 km. South of town of Kozloduy. Adjacent to the village Bhutan are villages of Glozhene, Kriva bara and Sofronievo. Along the river passes rivecer of Ogosta which is suitable for recreation and fishing.
Background: According to legend, the village takes its name from a game. In the past, in some holidays, the local people are pushed from one hill called "Butana mogila".
Landmarks:
- At the center of the village is situated the ancient church of St. Spas
- The Popovo inn, built in 1872. Here once stopped the great Bulgarian revolutionary Hristo Botev till his march and 11 persons from the village were joined to his detachment.
- 14 ancient mounds located around the village
