The Village of Cherni Vit is located in North-Central Bulgaria. It is included in Municipality Teteven (Lovech District). It is sitauted some 20 km southwest of the town of Teteven, in a beautiful valley, in the heart of the evergreen Sredna Stara Planina Mountain. The river of the same name – Cherni Vit, which springs at the foot of the Baba mountain peak, crosses the village. The Dalga, Mihalska, Kositsa, Grajdenicha and other rivers pour into the Cherni Vit River. Their cool pools and rafts are home for the Balkan trout. The century-old wood, the large rocks and the difficult to access river valley have given both the names of the river and the village. The relief is pronouncedly mountainous. The altitude varies from 500 m above sea level at the Pelovoto place, to 2033 m above sea level on the Kartal mountain peak. Because of its beautiful nature, historical past and traditions and favorable climate the village is a preferred all year round tourist destination. The village of Cherni Vit is a starting point for the alpine places and huts in the region. “Boatin” – the largest beech-tree reserve on the Balkan Peninsula, characterized by its century-old trees and natural landmarks, is located in the village.
